Writing seems overwhelming at times, and can be tedious when things just don't flow right. It is the same as an artist facing a blank canvas--at times it is exhilarating--and at times it is just down right scary. Gerson's book, The Voice of the Muse,  is the perfect remedy, whether you are a pro, a novice, or just thinking you might like to write. It is a book of encouragement, kind words, and great advice.

I found the Voice of the Muse to be inspirational but at the same time practical. The exercises are simple but effective and every page compels you to read further. I like the freedom of the book, leaving everything up to the reader (writer) to do things the way that works best for them. It is a clever way to teach, maybe something that could work in schools where students think more about how bored they are than the subject they should want to learn about. Two important points come to the surface again and again; you can write and you can enjoy writing.

Overcoming writer's block, something most writers have experienced, becomes a non-issue with this book at your side. I highly recommend a copy for every writer, and keep it very handy. When stuck, grab your copy and pick an exercise--I have tried it and it definitely works. My copy, once nice and new, is already showing signs of use, or love, it you prefer to put it that way.
