Style Basics – ‘A Polished Appearance Will Make
You Shine!’

When I’m dressed in my most becoming outfit, having a good hair day, and my make-up, painstakingly applied, is just right – I’m ready to take on the world! I stand a little straighter, my smile grows a little wider, and my disposition turns a WHOLE lot brighter!  

When you look good, you feel good! And despite what the glamour magazines would have you believe, you don’t have to have a great body, beautiful hair, or be drop-dead gorgeous to command attention.  

People treat you how you treat yourself. By that I mean, when you take the time to dress appropriately and practice good grooming, you’re telling others that you value yourself as a human being. Your self-confidence soars and others, in turn, place their confidence in you.  

The ‘smallest’ details can have a ‘huge’ impact on making or breaking your image – so don’t overlook them. Before you walk out the door, take a long look in a mirror – preferably full-length – and make sure you are not – knowingly or unknowingly – taking any of these image saboteurs with you:  

• Rundown shoes

• Reinforced-toe nylons with open-toe shoes

• Runs in your nylons

• Underarm stains

• Lint or dandruff

• Missing/loose buttons, snaps, or hooks

• Slips that show

• Slipping lingerie straps

• Visible bra/panty lines

• Exposed linings

• A too short coat over a longer skirt

• Too tight pants or slim skirts

• Blouse or top gaping at the bust-line

• Garments with pilling, fading, or stains

• Unkempt or outdated hair

• Darkened roots

• Nails not manicured or chipped polish  

While a polished image may not always get you what your want from life – your dream job or the man of your dreams – it certainly helps. So take the time to polish your appearance and you’ll not only shine on the outside but you’ll sparkle from the inside out, too!
