Historic Route 66: With
most of the historic route running parallel to Interstate 40, The Mother
Road lives on as the Main Street in Holbrook, reminding us the Route 66
is America's First Mainstreet. Petrified Forest National Park is the
only National Park to have a portion of Route 66 within it, and there is
a wayside exhibit on Route 66.
Petrified Forest National Park:
With one of the
world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood,
multi-hued badlands of the Painted Desert, historic structures,
archeological sites, and displays of 225 million year old fossils, this
is a surprising land of scenic wonders and fascinating science. With
over 52,000 acres of designated wilderness to explore, outdoor park
activities include sightseeing, photography, hiking, horseback riding,
backpacking and backpack camping, photography, and bird watching. The
park also hosts a number of special events and programs including
lectures, guide hikes and tours, cultural demonstrations, and more. Tel:
