Horsin' around the Hi-Desert

Whether it’s a desert trail ride or a getaway with your horses, spring is the ideal season to do any kind of horsin’ around up in the Hi-Desert area of the Morongo Basin just north of Palm Springs in Southern California.

Home to Joshua Tree National Park and Pipes Canyon Preserve there are numerous trails to explore including the popular California Hiking & Riding Trail which runs through both parks/preserves. The Backcountry & Wilderness Management Plan provides for 253 miles of equestrian trails and trail corridors that traverse open lands, canyon bottoms, and dry washes. Trail maps for the west entrance area and for the Black Rock Canyon area are available at the park.

Riding into the ‘Old West’, expect to travel through fields of desert wildflowers, cactus in bloom, forests of ancient Joshua Trees, and enjoy the awesome rock formations, brilliant sunrises and sunsets, and the big open blue sky that never quits.......

PIONEERTOWN: The atmosphere of the Old West lives on in this old 1870s frontier town that functioned as a movie set for movies like Annie Oakley, The Cisco Kid, and Hopalong Cassidy movie series.

The house is always a rockin’ at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace - right next to the motel. Hitch your horse in their corral, party to live music, dig into their delicious Mesquite BBQ and enjoy a cool one. (760) 365-5956,
