Pottery is a welcome alternative to today's
mass-produced and impersonal products. Enjoy the tactile and visual
effects - food tastes, and looks better when it's served on handmade
pottery. At Colorado River Pottery, one may find local Yuma artist Jan
Bentley literally 'up to her elbows' creating various pieces in the
working studio that adjoins her gallery. Using a combination of
centuries-old techniques and modern technology, each piece is
hand-formed, then trimmed and dried, and then fired to about 1850
degrees in an electric kiln. The piece is then glazed and set out
to dry, and then fired in a gas kiln. To take a virtual tour of Colorado River Pottery, click here.
Radio Interview – Jan Bentley was a featured guest on SouthwestBlend.com’s online radio show called ‘Champagne Sundays’. The show was a special ‘Mothers Day’ radio show, and aired live on March 30, 2008. To listen to the entire, unedited version of the show, click here.
